A Brief History

Maharana Pratap Government Post Graduate College is situated at district Hardoi about 200 meter from Sitapur bypass road adjacent to Sports Stadium. The college has easy access from the city and railway station which is situated at 1.5 km away from it. The college was established as per the Uttar Pradesh government order No5345/19-79 (11) (2) (3)/79 dated 06 November 1979 on the demands of local people and by the efforts of people representative in district Hardoi. Therefore, Maharana Pratap Government College was established and initially affiliated to Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, (CSJM) Kanpur to provide the quality education in the field of higher studies. It is registered under section 2f and 12b of University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956 in the year 2009. In the beginning, the college was started in the building of Can Society Hardoi in the year 1979. The college started imparting higher education in the field of Science and Commerce.

The foundation stone of the new college building was laid down by the then Higher Education/ Labour and employment Minister Dr Narendra Kumar Singh Gaur along with the auspicious presence of secretary Higher Education Mr Naveen Chandra Bajpai, Director Higher Education Dr Brij Mohan Lal Tiwari and the Principal Dr Devaki Nand Pandey on 22nd January 1992. The building was completed and transferred to the college authority in the year1997, for the smooth running of various sanctioned courses in the field of Science and Commerce. In order to provide the all round sustainable development of the resource deprived meritorious students, the Government of Uttar Pradesh sanctioned M.Com course in 1995 and M.Sc courses in Science subjects in 1998 on the basis of excellent performance of the college. Post graduate courses in Science were started in the subjects viz. Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology. The college was granted permission to run Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course by the Uttar Pradesh Government and NCTE in 2007.

The college has a grand building with different blocks for Science, Commerce, B.Ed and physical education including labs and classrooms furnished with modern equipments, a computer centre, digitalised library, Girls common room, gymnasium and administrative block. The college also has a large and modernised auditorium for organising various programs. The college campus also has a sizable playground, a cycle stand and a canteen. The college is equipped to provide all round development (educational, physical and moral well being) of the student

On the basis of excellent performance, the college was granted B certificate by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2010. As per amendment in the Uttar Pradesh State University Act, 1973 in accordance with the Uttar Pradesh Government notification No 1568/79-Vi-1-20-1 (k)-37-20, dated 31 August, 2020, the higher Education section 1 in accordance with Uttar Pradesh Government Letter No 1725/77-1-2020- 16(17)/2020, on 15th October 2020 the four district colleges viz. Hardoi, Lakhimpur Khiri, Raebareli, Sitapur affiliated to CSJM Kanpur University, were transferred to University of Lucknow, Lucknow as per the decisions taken by the meeting dated 30th December 2020 granted permission for the transfer under the head No:11
